Summer News from the SU
This has been one of our busiest terms yet, with events that brought students and staff together, celebrated our diverse community, and gave prospective students a real taste of college life.
Culture Day
Culture Day in May was the first event run by our newly elected Student Union team, and it set the tone for a brilliant term. Food stalls showcased dishes from around the world, a face-painting stall added a creative touch, and a giant world map let students and teachers pin where they’re from. The event drew a huge turnout, with students singing and dancing to music from home, a brilliant reminder of the range of backgrounds and traditions that make up our college community.
Taster Days for Future Year 12s
We enjoyed meeting so many upcoming year 12s at the two Taster Days in July. To help introduce ourselves and student life, the SU ran a stand in the busy cafe where visitors could ask about college life, courses, and the transition to sixth form. SU President Dash and Vice President Mathilde also hosted lunchtime Q&A panels i the College Theatre with student ambassadors, giving future students first-hand insight into academic and social life at Esher, straight from people who’ve been in their shoes.
Open Evening and the Mayor’s Visit
The Year 10 Open Evening was another standout, with a visit from the Mayor of Elmbridge. Dash and Mathilde personally showed the Mayor around, highlighting the subjects, clubs, and extracurricular opportunities on offer, which was a proud moment for the SU and a great chance to showcase the college to someone from the wider community.
It’s been a busy, eventful term thanks to the involvement of students across the college. New Year 12s joining us in September will find plenty of SU events and opportunities to get involved with. We cannot wait to meet you!
