Fine Art A Level students from 6.2 embarked on an inspiring trip to some of London’s most iconic art institutions, including the Tate Modern, the Royal Academy of Arts, and White Cube Bermondsey.

The trip proved to be a busy and enriching experience, with students exploring major exhibitions such as Nigerian Modernism, works by Kerry James Marshall, and photography by Andreas Gursky. Each exhibition offered a unique perspective, exposing students to diverse artistic voices, cultural narratives, and innovative techniques.

The trip forms a key part of students’ preparation for their ‘Personal Investigation – Related Study’, a significant component of the A Level course. As part of this, students are required to produce a 3,000-word essay exploring a chosen theme and specific artists who influence their own work.

Students reported gaining inspiration from a wide spectrum of ideas, from the cultural contexts behind the artworks to their scale, materials, and powerful messages which the artists expressed. The experience provided valuable first-hand insight, helping to deepen their understanding and inform the development of their own creative work.
