Celebrating Maths Mentors
It was a packed house as the Maths department celebrated the incredible Maths Mentors – students who volunteered their time to support peers through the Maths Mentoring Programme.
Over the past two terms, 35 mentors worked with 58 mentees, delivering an impressive total of 578 mentoring sessions.
The programme’s success is reflected in strong feedback from both mentors and mentees. Mentors rated their volunteering experience at an average of 4.47 out of 5, while mentees rated the usefulness of the sessions even higher, at 4.61 out of 5. This reporter is told that the numbers never lie.
Students highlighted the supportive and approachable nature of the mentoring. One mentee commented that their mentor was “very good at breaking down topics into more manageable parts,” while another valued being able to “ask for help on homework without feeling shy.” Others praised mentors for being “great at explaining the method,” “really friendly,” and offering helpful tips and guidance specific to the course.
During the celebration, staff served a selection of delicious cakes and cookies as mentees presented their mentors with small gifts of appreciation.
The maths department would like to sincerely thank all the Maths Mentors, recognising the significant difference the mentors have made to students’ confidence and achievement throughout the year.
