Students and staff returned after half term to find our new Sociology classrooms and café area open and ready for business.

The new Sociology Block provides 190 sq ft of additional social space and seating for students and is part-funded by a successful bid through the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) for Government funding.

Cameron Stevens, a 6.2 student, says, “It was a nice surprise to walk into the new café area on our first week back. Normally I meet friends outside in the courtyard, but to have this now just as the weather turns colder is perfect."

Audrey Lau, a 6.1 student, added, “It’s nice to have somewhere new to go. It’s really big and spacious."

Meanwhile the Sociology department have been moving upstairs into their new classrooms. With three new state-of-the art classrooms, Emily Parnell, Head of Sociology, says she is most excited about the extra display space the department will have. “With 500 Sociology students, we can really show students what we get up to. Sociology is so relevant in society right now because of the issues going on, not just the impact COVID will have on family life, crime and society, but also the Black Lives Matter movement and climate change."
