Principal’s Update
Dan Hards, Principal at Esher Sixth Form College, wraps up another exceptional year and talks achievements, progression and the power of community.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Friends,
As we bring the academic year to a close, I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all members of the Esher Sixth Form College community for making this another exceptional year. Our students continue to impress not only with their academic achievements, but also with the dedication, kindness and creativity they bring to college life.
Celebrating Student Voice and Leadership
We have a newly elected Student Union which is led by our President, Flora, and supported by her team—Thea (Vice President), Kyle (Marketing), Emma (Events and Charities), Oli (Eco & Sustainability), and Ruby and Alisha (Equality & Welfare), and the SU has already had a hugely positive impact.
From Culture Day and charity fundraisers to the much-celebrated Summer Festival, the team has brought energy and inclusivity to student life. I wish them all the best for the year ahead.
Academic Achievement and Progression
Our 6.2 students have now completed their final A Level and BTEC assessments. These students have shown resilience, drive, and ambition throughout their time at Esher, and we wish them every success as they await their results this summer. Our Progression Guidance and Examinations teams remain on hand to support students through the post-results period—more details are available on our website.
Our 6.1 cohort has had a busy term, with progression planning well underway. From our Higher Education and Employment events to After Esher Day and Wider Skills Week, we have seen students take confident steps towards their futures. Whether gaining experience through work placements or exploring options through the Internship programme, they continue to grow in independence and aspiration.
Staff Achievements
We were incredibly proud that two of our longest-serving and most respected staff members, Jo Canessa and Sue Ockleford, were invited to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in May, in recognition of their remarkable service to education. Their reflections on the day, from sipping tea in the royal gardens to enjoying the company of King Charles and Queen Camilla, were a joy to hear—and richly deserved.
Looking Ahead
Construction will be completed this summer on a new four-classroom teaching block at the front of campus. IT, Computer Science, Philosophy and Classical Civilisation will be taught in the new block, together with offices for the Tutor Team Leaders and new toilets for both staff and students.
We’re also inviting nominations for a Parent Representative on the College Board of Trustees from November 2025. If you are the parent or carer of a current 6.1 student or an incoming September 2025 student, this is an opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the College. For more details, please contact our Clerk, Catherine Davies, at cdavies@esher.ac.uk .
Wishing you all a safe, relaxing and well-deserved summer break. We look forward to welcoming students back in September for another exciting year at Esher Sixth Form College.
