The Music department were extremely pleased to run a competition, in conjunction with Sontronics hardware company, in which a studio recording microphone was up for grabs. One of the assignments on the BTEC Music Technology course is to record a cover of ‘Last Nite’ by The Strokes and produce a professional mix. The student with the best overall mix, as judged by the Music staff, was to be awarded the microphone. The deserving winner was Molly Vivian (pictured with teachers Darren Rampton and Claire Whittaker), who is now looking forward to setting up a home studio and developing her recording skills further. Steve Barrett-White, a Sontronics representative who has delivered recording workshops at the college before, offered the prize to help keen Music Tech students develop their skills at home. The Music department hope to be able to run the same competition again next year.
