Extension Studies: Rugby Team, Critical Thinking Pathway
“There is so much opportunity beyond your subject classes. I love being part of the College rugby team, which plays to a very high standard and being able to participate in the Bar Mock Trial has developed my interest in a career in law.”
The idea of college really appealed to me from early on. My elder sister went to Esher and had a great experience here and I was ready for the same kind of thing – to meet new people and to take advantage of all the opportunities a big college can provide.
I have made a lot of friends playing in the College Men’s Rugby team. The team is made up of both 6.1s and 6.2s so you are getting to know students across both year groups. Game day is Wednesday and we play in the Surrey Sixth Form League.
As part of my personalised programme and my interested in Law, I do the Critical Thinking Pathway, which is once a week. I am enjoying the challenge and being pushed to extend my thinking. I have been encouraged to enter an essay competition where I will be exploring the question Can machines exercise free will?
I really like managing my own time and having more independence. I want to go on to university after Esher, so all the skills I am learning is really preparing me for that.
