Our Politics A Level students enjoyed an inspiring online talk with the brilliant Baroness Harris of Richmond.

A Liberal Democrat Life Peer in the House of Lords, Baroness Harris introduced her role in the Second Chamber and explored both the strengths and limitations of the Lords as a revising chamber. She also made the case for a democratically elected House of Lords, elected through proportional representation, and shared her concerns about challenges to the liberal, rules-based order.

Esher students asked thoughtful questions on UK and global politics, including the legitimacy of the Lords, proposals for a retirement age, US foreign policy, and the future of the Liberal Democrats.

6.1 Politics A Level student Nadia said,

“Baroness Harris was lovely to speak to – she was very enlightening and I really enjoyed hearing her takes on current political issues.”

This online talk was an excellent opportunity for students to engage directly with contemporary political debate.

A sincere thank you to the Baroness for sharing her time and insights with our students.
