Success in the Cambridge Biology Challenge
The College is thrilled to announce that all 13 of the Biology A level students who took part in the prestigious Cambridge Biology Challenge received either commendations or high commendations for their submissions.
The first round was titled, “Can new life be created?” with seven students earning Badges of Merit for the outstanding biological content in their work, as well as earning bonus points for their teams. Special mentions go to:
-
Lucia E. and Yayha B. (highly commended), who explored the Avida model.
-
Alexander T. (highly commended), for his discussion on protoribosomes.
-
Aimee D. (commended), whose work on xenobots also earned a Badge of Merit.
-
Celine B., Emma F., and Chloe L. (commended), for including XNAs in their submissions.
Ailís Kane, Teacher of Biology says,
“It’s inspiring to see you pushing beyond the syllabus and approaching such challenging questions with such curiosity and enthusiasm!
If these topics are new to you, they’re fascinating areas of modern biology and definitely worth exploring further.
Congratulations also go to Neev G., Chloe M., Sara M., Kimaya M., Amelia L., and Saron A., who were all commended for their excellent submissions.
And the challenge continues! Teams have already submitted their answers to the second question, “Why is maths a ‘gift’ for biologists?”.
Ailís said there is still time to get involved:
“The third question being released later this month. Students can respond in a variety of ways—posters, essays, podcasts, videos, or even songs—so there’s plenty of room for creativity. We can’t wait to see more brilliant ideas from our biologists as the competition unfolds!”
