We are delighted to announce that two of our Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) students have received provisional offers to study at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

Oxford University Birds Eye View

This year, Esher’s Oxbridge offers span a broad range of subjects. At Oxford, offers have been made for History & Politics, French & Spanish, Engineering, Fine Art, and English Literature & Language. Meanwhile, Cambridge offers include places for Geography (2), Engineering, Mathematics (2), Modern & Mediaeval Languages, and Music.

The College’s overall Oxbridge success rate stands at 18.75%, significantly outperforming the national average of 16.66%.

Catherine Wilks, Head of Modern Foreign Languages, praised the students’ commitment: We are so proud of our offer holders: they worked hard to get them, but the process was so much easier as they both genuinely loved the work involved in preparing for the application. As teachers Daniel and I appreciated all their efforts, which gave us the chance to take our subjects beyond the constraints of the A Level specification and get into both hard grammar and really interesting discussions.”

One of this year’s Oxford offer holders is Jack F., who studies French, Spanish, and Mathematics at Esher. He has received a provisional offer to read French & Spanish at Oxford. Jack’s enthusiasm for languages was a driving force behind his application.

“You really need to enjoy your subject — the rest follows from that,” he explained.

Encouraged by his teachers to apply to Oxbridge, Jack began exploring his subjects in greater depth through wider reading. That extra effort not only deepened his understanding but also enriched his personal statement, helping him stand out in the highly competitive application process.

Looking ahead, the College is committed to supporting all students in securing their university places. Beyond the Oxbridge successes, many of our MFL students have applied to competitive universities to study languages, often in combination with other disciplines. These pathways are opening exciting opportunities for international careers — from working abroad to roles in global business and diplomacy.

We are incredibly proud of all our students and the bright futures they are building.
