Esher’s Fashion & Textiles students wrapped up the academic year in style with a series of inspiring London visits and a showstopping end-of-year catwalk event at college.

In May, Esher’s 6.1 Fashion cohort continued their deep dive into the world of style and design with two major exhibition visits.

Their first stop was the Design Museum for Splash! A Century of Swimming and Style — a fascinating exploration of 100 years of swimwear and aquatic fashion.

Next, the group visited the Fashion & Textile Museum for The Art of Mankind, an exhibition that celebrates the timeless and universal role of textiles in human life and culture. The visit sparked creative ideas and reflection on sustainability, tradition, and innovation — key themes for any budding designer.

In June, students headed to the heart of London’s East End to attend Graduate Fashion Week at the iconic Truman Brewery on Brick Lane. The event acts as a vital bridge between fashion education and industry. Students immersed themselves in a day of innovative catwalk shows, thought-provoking GFW Live! Talks, and bold exhibition.

“GFW is such an important platform for emerging designers,” said one student. “The energy and imagination on display was really inspiring.”

Back at College, the department’s annual end of year Catwalk Show was a huge success, with 6.2 students showcasing the culmination of two years of hard work, imagination, and technical skill. With a student-led production team, fabulous 6.1 models, and enthusiastic support from teachers, family, and friends, the show was a true celebration of Esher talent.

Nicola Walker, Head of Fashion, said: “As a department, we are so incredibly proud of our 6.2 cohort. They’ve worked exceptionally hard, and it all came together so beautifully in the final show and exhibition. It was a wonderful celebration of everything they’ve achieved.”

The future is bright for Esher’s graduating Fashion & Textiles students. Many are going on to degree courses in Fashion Design at Kingston, London College of Fashion, Manchester Met, Nottingham Trent, Loughborough, De Montfort — and even the renowned Parsons School of Design in New York.

Others have secured places to study Costume Design at Edinburgh, London College of Fashion, and Nottingham Trent, while many are taking up Art Foundation courses at UAL and Kingston. Some are branching into Fashion Business while others are pursuing university courses in Maths, Psychology, Business, Photography, or embarking on apprenticeships.
