Meet Art and Design student Rachel Bungey, who returned to Esher Sixth Form College to give an inspirational talk to our students about her career, from Nottingham Trent University to Japan.

What did you study at Esher: Art and Design Double BTEC, Sociology and English Literature A Level

Year you left Esher: 2010
What are you doing now: MA in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art.

Why did you choose a sixth form college?

I chose a sixth form college as I wanted a change from my school and to meet new people.

What was the first thing that struck you about Esher?

Esher felt relaxed, I liked being able to call teachers by their first name and I felt like I was treated like an adult!

What were your course highlights at Esher ?

Being able to do double art and design, it took up a lot of my timetable and I loved this.

What did you do after Esher?

After Esher I took a year out to travel, and then went to Nottingham Trent to study Visual Communication.

What have been your top career highlights so far?

Working at XL Recordings, doing the album cover for ‘Crop Circle’ by Nines, starting my own design studio, working in Tokyo as  a designer in the music industry to fund my art practise, and now I’ve just finished studying Sculpture for my MA at the Royal College of Art.

 

What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?

Be confident – And trust your instincts.

Last song I listened to – the new single by Aphex Twin – Blackbox Life Recorder 21f
