Universities and employers increasingly want well-rounded individuals with diverse experiences, who can work well in teams, problem solve and demonstrate academic curiosity. Our outstanding enrichment programme develops those wider skills helping you to extend your knowledge and interests beyond the classroom.

At Esher, we have a comprehensive Enrichment Programme with an exciting range of Extension Studies. Whatever your aptitude or academic goals, there is something for everyone.

What is an Extension Study?

In your first year, you will get to choose an extra activity to your timetable. These activities are not examined. The programme has been carefully designed with a variety of creative, scientific, social sciences or life skill courses to pick from, as well as the option to join one of our competitive sports’ teams.

Build Your Own Programme

In your second term you can add more enrichment options to your timetable such as another Extension Study or an Excellence Pathway to suit your interests and aspirations.
For example;

Law Pathway

Excellence Pathway

I took the Law Pathway as an extra enrichment option, which includes law-based activities like taking part in the Bar Mock Trials. I’ve also combined this with a weekly Pilates class, which allows me to fit in some exercise into my day, as well as relax and decompress from the demands of my academic subjects.”

Basketball Miles

Extension Study

Joining the Mens’ Basketball team at Esher helped me meet new people outside of my classes, and also improved my skills in teamwork and leadership, as well as Basketball.”

Extension Study

Taking part in Model United Nations (MUN) furthered my passion for international relations and gave me an insight into how diplomacy works. It’s given me more confidence, whilst enabling me to make so many new friends.”

Critical Thinking

Excellence Pathway

At Esher, I do the Sewing Bee extension study and I’m on the Women’s Basketball team, which has helped me learn to communicate while in high stress games!  I’ve also added the Critical Thinking excellence pathway to my timetable, which is helping me gear up my thinking for more complexity so I am better prepared to apply to higher status universities.”

EPQ

Extension Study

Taking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) helped me develop my writing and research techniques, which I could apply to my History A Level course.  My EPQ was on ‘How racial and gender bias within the Metropolitan Police affects public opinion.’ I had to give a presentation and learnt how to properly present to a group of people, speaking clearly, confidently, and answering questions I was not prepared for.”
