The College is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Commitment Certificate for the Quality in Careers Standard, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards achieving the highest national accolade for careers education in schools and colleges.

Last year, the College formally began work towards securing the prestigious Quality in Careers Standard, a nationally recognised award that aligns fully with the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance and is strongly recommended by the Department for Education within its statutory guidance.

To achieve the full award, the College must complete a comprehensive online portfolio by July 2026, evidencing the quality, impact and consistency of its careers provision. This process requires the College to meet or exceed all updated 2025 Gatsby Benchmarks, which set an even more rigorous standard for careers education.

The newly awarded Commitment Certificate recognises the College’s 100 per cent completion of Unit 1, the initial “commitment” stage of the standard. There are four units in total. Once the full portfolio is completed, an external assessor will visit the College to review its careers provision before formally granting the award. Progress is already well underway, with 80 per cent of Unit 2 completed, focusing on how careers education is organised to optimise students’ experiences.

Next steps will see the Progression Team undertake a detailed review of careers education delivery across the College. This will include evaluating schemes of work, analysing student and parent feedback, and assessing how careers education is embedded across curriculum departments.

Anna Young, Head of Progression Guidance, said:

“We are very proud of our sector-leading careers provision, which was recently highlighted as best practice on the Amazing Apprenticeships website. We look forward to achieving this prestigious award, which will be a real credit to the hard work and commitment of staff across the College.”
