The competition is a rigorous STEM problem-solving championship and saw the Esher team engaging in intense competition against seven other Key Stage 5 teams in the final showdown. Prior to the contest, the students were treated to a tour of the university campus, exploring its iconic landmarks such as the library, Founder’s building, and chapel.

The ultimate challenge of this year’s final, inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of “Zero Hunger,” tasked participants with the mission of efficiently transporting food from the base to the summit of a mountain. The students were tasked with designing and building a device capable of securely lifting food parcels, represented by Lego bricks, from ground level to table-top height, and depositing them into a container.

Under the guidance of their teachers, Sue Lawton and Jon Poole, the Esher Sixth Form College team, consisting of Alex Cronje, Klaid Haxhijaha, Ozzy Hayler-Goodhall, Louis Searle, Alex Turpin, and Ella Waterton, rose to the challenge with determination and ingenuity.

Their efforts did not go unnoticed, as the judges were thoroughly impressed by Esher Sixth Form College’s design, which exceeded expectations in terms of effectiveness. The team’s innovative approach and collaborative spirit propelled them to victory, solidifying their position as champions of the Satro Grand Final.

Congratulations to the students and their teachers on this fantastic achievement!
