The National Education Union (NEU) has a trade dispute with the Secretary of State due to their failure to make available additional and sufficient funds to allow employers to pay a fully funded increase for teachers in sixth form colleges which is at a rate greater than inflation. Consequently, a day of industrial action will be taking place on Wednesday 30th November 2022.
As the action is directed at the Secretary of State for Education rather than the College, this situation is unfortunately outside of our control. You can find the full reasons for the industrial action on the NEU website.
I can confirm that the College will be open as usual on Wednesday, and students should therefore attend timetabled lessons, unless a teacher has informed in advance that they will be on strike. If this is the case, students will not be expected to attend the lesson concerned, and the register will be marked as ‘S’ (Study Leave). Students should use any affected lesson as an opportunity to catch up with independent study. For further guidance, please click here for ‘NEU Industrial Action FAQs’.
