Congratulations to all the students and staff involved in this year’s College Production of The Chrysalids by John Wyndham.

Students, who took College Production as their Complementary Study option, achieved a College first with live performances from bubble casts performing simultaneously on stage - and live from home.

During the pandemic, allowing students to continue perfoming under social distancing restrictions proved no mean feat. A first year cast and second year production team rose to the challenge to create a show about a group of teenagers as they negotiate their new-found telepathic powers in a post-apocalyptic society,

The cast of 22, was split into two Bubble A and Bubble B casts. Each cast performed their roles once in College, while the other half zoomed in live via Microsoft Teams. And then vice-versa.

Cast member, Daniel McElroy, says, "Exploring ways to play fraternal protectiveness, romantic scenes and even some fight scenes from an appropriate proximity was a task none of us had ever undertaken before. We had to really concentrate on our physicality and delivery to make it all work."

The result was two inspired performances and a huge sense of achievement and comaraderie for everyone involved. Congratulations to all involved.
