Aspiring medics, vets and dentists are given targeted and specialist support when they apply to universities.
Through the format of individual sessions and small group activities, students are advised on a wide range of issues as they progress through a tough process.
Reading lists are recommended which will help them extend their knowledge beyond the confines of their A levels. Particular focus and attention is given to the students’ personal statements. Students will work through several drafts of their statement with continual feedback, before they arrive at the finished product. Practice papers are made available to them, so students can familiarise themselves with the format of aptitude tests. Perhaps most important of all, students are given practice and tips on how to manage the multiple mini interviews they would have to attend as part of their application to universities.
All this support is in addition to trips and visits organised by the Biology department to university lectures which highlight aspects or current issues in the study of medicine.
