Science research projects and competitions

Each year Esher staff support students to apply for places on science research projects, organised by SATRO (Surrey Science and Technology Regional Organisation). In the summer of 2014 three students took part in four week placements at the University of Surrey and Royal Holloway. Only 12 placements were awarded across Surrey, and all three Esher students were awarded a gold CREST (Creativity in Science and Technology) award.
Students also take part in a range of competitions including the AS Physics Challenge and the International Biology and Chemistry Olympiads. In 2013-14 nine Chemistry, six Physics and four Biology students were awarded medal certificates in these competitions.

Debating and essay competitions

Students have the opportunity to take part in debating, with the most talented and committed entering the “Debating Matters” competition. In 2014 the Esher team were runners up in the London South regional final of the national competition. Each year History students enter essay competitions run by Oxford and Cambridge. In 2014 one of our History student’s essays was Highly Commended in the Corpus Christi competition. Students are also entered for Classics, English, Law, Theology and Politics essay writing competitions.
