I was a little apprehensive about leaving my old friends behind, but I knew that Esher College was the only place that would nurture my ambition to study Photography and Media and prepare me for a career in these fields
The creative departments at Esher are very technologically advanced in both equipment and knowledge.
Mixing with a great number of students from surrounding areas, I found myself making loads of friends. Taking a variety of subjects also brings many different influences and ideas to your work. For example, I do Spanish and after travelling, and getting an in-depth insight into the culture and history, I feel a lot more open to different ideas and styles in photography and film, which is what universities are looking for. It also helps a lot when you have teachers such as Stephen, Blue, and Fiona in the Photography department, who are so experienced and down to earth, and who can help you with their own influences and opinions in the technical and theoretical side of Photography.
After College I plan to take a gap year before university, travelling and working independently, developing my own creative style, and, I hope, making a name for myself. I hope this year on my own will challenge me and focus my ideas. Following this, I have chosen universities whose approach to teaching and supporting the individual interests of students is similar to that of Esher College.
