Sport Esher
Esher College > Sports

Sport is an extremely important aspect of student life here at Esher College. There are numerous opportunities for students to get involved in a competitive manner through team sports such as football, rugby, netball and basketball. Alternatively students can get active as part of the complementary studies programme where the college offers badminton and five-a-side football. Lunchtime clubs also include lacrosse, racquets club, trampolining and cheerleading in which the ‘Esher Eagles’ are Surrey Colleges Champions.  The PE & Sport Department works hard to make both the A Level PE and Sport & Leisure courses as practical in nature as possible. Students also have the opportunity to be involved in sports through the Sport Leaders Awards. All Sport & Leisure students undertake the Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA). This award also forms part of the second year extension study programme. The PE & Sport department also offer the Higher Sport Leaders Award (HSLA) to students who have passed the CSLA with distinction.

Facilities

We have a range of sports facilities at our disposal which are used throughout the academic year engaging as many students as possible. We have facilities for football, rugby, netball and a fantastic sports hall with a fitness suite which is open to all students from 12pm – 2pm on a daily basis. The gym is supervised by a qualified fitness instructor who can provide a personal training programme for students and staff alike.  We have a dedicated Further Education Sports Co-ordinator (FESCO) employed on a part time basis to increase participation and competition amongst the student population and beyond.

Focus

The focus of ‘Sport Esher’ is to increase the level of participation, provision and competition in sport across the college and engage our students in all areas of sport, leisure, outdoor and adventure activities as well as volunteering, coaching and refereeing. In their second year students can take a Sports Leadership Award as part of their complementary studies, which offers an excellent opportunity for students wanting to pursue this field after Esher.

Commitment to Students

The PE & Sport Department aims to raise the profile of sport through a practical commitment to excellence and ‘high quality’ education.  Elite athletes at Esher College are recognised and supported with a view to them achieving an outstanding standard of performance in their chosen sports. All students are actively encouraged to take more responsibility for sport at the college and integrate sport into their own lives.
