Team sports at Esher College

The College is affiliated to British Colleges Sport (BCS). The aim is to increase the level of competition for the students with a range of teams not only competing locally but also nationally.

Esher College has 2 talented netball teams who compete in the Surrey Sixth Forms League. They also play matches against other local colleges and sixth forms throughout the year. Training for netball is on a Tuesday afternoon after college with Dawn Denton who is coach for both the 1st and 2nds. The trials for netball are at the beginning of the college academic year.

Over the last couple of years Esher Rugby has grown in size and now has a squad of 45 which means the opportunity for us to field 2 talented rugby teams. The 1st XV rugby team competes in the Surrey Sixth Form League as well as both the 1st and 2nds playing many colleges and schools in the Surrey and London area. Both the 1st and 2nds have weekly training with Nic Evans, our rugby coach, and RFU Community Coaches.

Esher College has 3 football teams, with all of them competing in the Surrey Sixth Form League and other competitions. Each team has its own coach and the standard within all three teams is high. The trials in September prove to be very competitive. The 1st XI have reached the final of the under 19’s College’s cup for the past two seasons. Last season’s final was played in front of an impressively large crowd at Staines Town FC.

Esher College has a talented squad who compete in Surrey Sixth Form League, as well as playing local colleges and the American International School. The squad is coached by John Whitlock and train weekly in the College sports hall. The team is growing in strength and in team spirit.

Girls football is growing in the UK and Esher College Sport reflects that by having a 5-a-side and 11-a-side teams. The teams compete in tournaments and friendlies throughout the year and more girls are playing each term. Let the PE & Sport Department know if you’re interested in playing and we will let you know the details.

Monday lunchtimes in the sports hall are all about table tennis and badminton. Racquet club has proven to be a major success for Esher College with an average of over 65 students turning up. A great place to have fun with your friends, work on new techniques and get active during lunchtimes.

Esher College Tennis club is run on Thursday lunchtimes, on the College tennis courts. Tom Arkell (FESCO) runs the club and all standards are welcome. Whether you’re a beginner or the next Roger Federer any one can pick up a racquet and play. The club is for fun, structured and always welcomes new members.

Esher College has taster lacrosse sessions for all students on Tuesday lunchtimes on the rugby pitches. Cobham Lacrosse Club coaches come to Esher and give lessons for beginners or more coaching for advanced players. We are hoping to soon have a team to compete in matches and take part in the fastest growing sport in the country.

On the 10th December Esher Eagles took part in the UCDC Southern Schools Competition at Sutton Tennis Academy. The squad have been working on a routine for the last 10 weeks on Friday lunchtimes with Tori Hardy, Director of Unity Cheer & Dance Co who has been choreographing and teaching the girls the routine. After an amazing performance the Esher Eagles won the Colleges section and took home the trophy. Congratulations to all the squad and well done for all your hard work.
Cheerleading takes place in the sports hall on Friday lunchtimes and is available to all students. Come along and learn an amazing cheerleading routine, have fun and meet new friends. The cheerleading is funded by Sports Unlimited so we have a qualified Cheerleading coach to come in and teach you. There is an amazing team spirit in the Esher Eagles squad which welcomes new members.
