Vincent Cable Visits Esher College

A lecture given by Vincent Cable, Deputy Leader for the Liberal Democrats and MP for Richmond and Twickenham, ensured a full house at Esher College’s lecture theatre last week.  Mr Cable gave an enthusiastic speech on the Liberal Democrat’s plan for the economy, the prospects of hung parliament and a coalition government and the need to re-evaluate the current voting system used for Westminster elections.  Mr Cable stated that the Liberal Democrats were the most environmentally friendly party and encouraged students to vote, whatever their political beliefs.  He then went on to answer student’s questions on a range of subjects including Britain's' place in Europe, alternative medicine, political participation and the prospects of a coalition government in the UK.

Meir Shabat, Head of Government and Politics at the College said, “This was a very engaging talk that prompted many questions and generated follow -up discussions later in politics lessons. Mr Cable’s impassionate call for students and young people in general to participate in politics and to use their vote might not have fallen on deaf ears if the impressive attendance at the debates that followed his speech were anything to go by.”
