Peter Shore, the UK manager of the charity ‘Friendship Clinic Nepal’ came in to Esher College to present members of the Student Council with certificates for raising enough money to buy a well for a small village in Nepal plus resources for their kindergarten. Along with Jude Smit, Head of Learning Support, who actually visited the village of Meghauli at Easter, the students raised over £1300.
In honour of the donation, the well has been named the Esher College Well and will provide safe drinking water for the villagers. Peter said, "The Esher College Well is already in operation and local villagers are already seeing and experiencing for the first time in their lives, the benefits of drinking, cooking and washing in pure clean water. The staff and students of Esher College must be publicly applauded for their generosity, time and consideration for others in distress, at a time when there are national problems much closer to home."
Jude visited the village at Easter said “I had the most amazing, inspirational time during my visit and having the opportunity to support the work being carried out in the clinic, water projects and the kindergartens has been a real honour and privilege. I will definitely be continuing to support Friendship Clinic Nepal and all its hard work.”
The College will continue to have links with the village and Jude will visit the village again in 2011.
The ‘Friendship Clinic Nepal’ was setup in 1996 and was founded “For the relief of Poverty, Sickness and Distress through the provision of a clinic for the benefit of the inhabitants of Meghauli, Chitwan, Nepal”. For more information please visit www.clinic-nepal.org.uk
