The Student Council at Esher College donated £1,000 to the Shooting Star Children's Hospice. Mike Hey, Community Fundraising Manager at the Hospice, gratefully received the cheque at a presentation and spoke to the students about where the money would be going.
The Student Council visited Shooting Star House at an open day in November and were all extremely moved and impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff. Bethany Stone, Charities Secretary for 2008 said, "The wonderful and uplifting environment they create provides such essential care and the Student Council are very pleased to be able to support such a worthwhile charity. We hope that this donation will be the foundation of a long lasting and beneficial relationship with Shooting Star."
The students at Esher College have raised over £4,500 since September 2008 for various charities including the British Heart Foundation, the Terrence Higgins Trust and the College's own charity, The Esher Africa Trust. Last academic year they raised a staggering £12,500.
