National Debating Competition
Esher College has won the first round of the prestigious 'School's Mace' National Debating Competition. The team (Alex Botham and Naomi Blair pictured left) gave eloquent and passionate speeches opposing the motion "This House would make organ donation compulsory" at the competition hosted by Tiffin Boys School in Kingston. Their rivals in the debate were Lady Eleanor Holles. This year was the first time Esher College entered the competition, so the victory is a great achievement for the young and relatively inexperienced debaters who were up against 5 other teams, all from selective / private schools, most with a long established tradition in the School's Mace Competition. To qualify for the second round of debates, as well as winning against LEH, Alex and Naomi beat formidable opponents from Surbiton High, Tiffin Girls, Tiffin Boys, and Hampton School.
