Esher Win Surrey Colleges Cup Semi-Final
Esher College 0 Reigate College 0 (Esher win 4-2 on pens)
Esher Mens 1st XI progressed into the final of this competition for the second year running after a tough fought victory over close rivals Reigate College. In a tense affair both teams demonstrated a very high level of play despite the heavy conditions. Both sides had chances to win the game in normal time with Teague Calvin-Cranenburgh hitting the woodwork for Esher after a Daniel Clifford free kick. As the game went into extra time the Esher back line came under more and more pressure, but were excellently marshalled by sweeper Harvey Dunsire and midfielder Ethan Lapsley.
The extra time period finished without any score and the game went to penalties. Esher won the toss and decided to take the first penalty and this ultimately gave them the psychological edge. Penalties from skipper Josh Ayres, Harvey Dunsire, Guy Smith and Guy Pearson were enough to see Esher thorough. A special mention goes to goalkeeper Jon Lewis who was magnificent throughout. Esher will now play the winners of Richmond College and Kingston College. If the latter progress it will be a repeat of last year’s final.
